Hand-carved by artist Llosh Winnefrom the wood of a sustainably-sourced macadamia nut tree, locally-grown on Big Island of Hawaii.
Inspired by Japanese kintsugi art, cracks in the bowl are colorfully decorated with bright blue-green turquoise gemstone and black Alaskan Anthracite stone. As a philosophy, Japanese kintsugi treats breakage and repair as an honorable and beautiful part of the history of an object that strengthens and enhances, rather than diminishes. More than just an art form, kintsugi teaches us that the “flaws” in wood art are what make each piece unique and valuable. Instead of discarding something that is broken, we can strengthen and revive it through kintgusi repair, adding beauty and giving it a new life. The electric blue of the turquoise stones add a stunning, bright, colorful contrast to the natural dark, reddish-brown tone of the macadamia nut wood.
Polished with organic linseed oil and natural beeswax, this bowl is food safe.
