This stunning koai’a wood bowl was handmade on the Island of Hawaii by bowl turner Llosh Winne from a locally-grown, sustainably-sourced koai’a tree. Artistically detailed with an elegant amount of turquoise gemstone, this koai’a bowl is a one-of-a-kind, kintsugi-inspired work of art. It is currently one of the artist’s favorite pieces in his collection.
Koai’a is a rare, highly valued Hawaiian hardwood, endemic to the Hawaiian islands and known as one of the most spectacular hardwoods in the world. In Japanese Kintsugi style, imperfections in the wood are transformed into beautiful decoration with fine, colorful turquoise inlay. As a philosophy, Japanese kintsugi treats flaws and repairs as honorable and beautiful parts of the history of an object that add value, rather than diminish. The natural edge in this piece is filled with turquoise gemstone from Arizona and surrounded by a light colored sap wood.
Polished with all-natural, organic finishing products, this bowl is food safe.
