This one-of-a-kind Manila palm wood bowl was handmade by professional bowl turner Llosh Winne on the Big Island of Hawaii. The artist maintained the bark on the edge of the bowl, giving this bowl an incredibly unique, natural look and live edge. The wood artist then repaired a crack in the wood in Japanese kintsugi inspired artistic stick by using royal blue lapis lazuli and blue-green turquoise precious gemstone inlay, offering a colorful, bright contrast to the natural brown and tan of the palm wood.
The palm wood used for this bowl comes from a sustainably-sourced, locally-grown palm tree on the Island of Hawaii.
Inspired by traditional Japanese kintsugi art, cracks and openings in the wood are repaired and colorfully decorated with fine turquoise and lapis lazuli stone inlay. As a philosophy, Japanese kintsugi treats breakage and repair as an honorable and beautiful part of the history of an object that strengthens and enhances, rather than diminishes.
