This elegant Norfolk Pine wood bowl was handmade by professional artist and bowl turner Llosh Winne on the Big Island of Hawaii. Made directly from the wood of a Norfolk Pine tree, the artist hand-carved, turned and sanded the bowl with the utmost care and attention to detail, then added real turquoise gemstone inlay. Norfolk pine trees grow in a ringed fashion, giving the wood a unique knot pattern.
In traditional Japanese kintsugi style, cracks and openings in the wood are colorfully decorated with fine turquoise gemstone inlay. As a philosophy, Japanese kintsugi treats breakage and repair as an honorable and beautiful part of the history of an object that strengthens and enhances, rather than diminishes. More than just an art form, kintsugi teaches us that the “flaws” in wood art are what make each piece unique and valuable.
This piece is extra special because of the intricate flame-like details in the grain of the wood.
